Times and Seasons Series: Introduction

Although God is the same today, yesterday, and forever, His mandate for us requires that we change and grow over time.

The command “be fruitful and multiply” literally requires that we occupy different areas and facets of life, because there is only so much of our capacity that one area can accommodate. Thus, we are constantly shifting from one season to another, and with seasons comes points of transition, which require us to let go of the things that served us in a previous season. For the sake of this post, I will be defining “transition” as the in-between period, just after one season concludes and right before the next season in your life begins.

The ability to discern when you are at a point of transition, and how to act accordingly in preparation for the next season, is crucial in moving successfully between seasons. Unfortunately, this isn’t always straightforward because, often, no two points of transition have the exact same physical manifestation; some require more from you than others. For example, one transition could be a simple passing from one life stage to the next, such as moving from one grade to the next. Whereas, another transition can be a difficult process of separation, such as leaving your home country to pursue a life abroad. Other seasonal transitions are orchestrated by God, purely for your awakening to His purpose. These are often marked by a restlessness and a deep desire for a life that is more meaningful. At these points, you may not be able to point to a particular event, but several things begin to unfold, pointing to a greater shift in normalcy. It may feel as if most things are beyond your control, and that in order to get to the other side, you have to brave the storms. It is at these moments that God brings to your attention that your lamp is running out of oil, and that you need a fresh pouring from Him. These are also points of exchange, where the former tools and strategies that will not serve you in the new season, are traded in for new ones, and lies are exchanged for Biblical truths.

If this resonates with something that you are going through, may have recently gone through, or may have witnessed someone else experience, join me on this “Transition” series where I will be diving into depth about how we recognize God-orchestrated transitions, how we can respond and how to discern His voice in the midst of it all.
